That Tugging Feeling

15 11 2011

This weekend we discussed some catalysts of great leadership. A catalyst…….something that causes an important event to happen. Isn’t that a great description of a leader? Great leaders enact change.

There once was a Catholic schoolteacher. There wasn’t anything particularly special about her, but she had this “tugging” feeling inside her causing her to notice the poor and the outcast. That feeling grew until she decided to do something about. She went to go live in the slums among the poorest of the poor to care for and  minister to them. She took a risk and left what was comfortable to follow the “tugging” that God put in her heart. Eventually people began to follow her, and what she was doing grew into a worldwide movement. We know that woman today as Mother Teresa.

I believe that each of us have a “tugging” on our heart. It’s that issue or that people group that we just can’t ignore. I believe that God highlights those things because he is calling you step out and be the catalyst for change.

What “tugging” do you feel on your heart? What is God calling you to do about it?

God continues to put things in place for the calling He placed in my heart many years back. My main desire is to follow His calling. Prayers for peace, strength, Calling on the Gifts of the spirit. May the movement of the spirit remove all that is in Our way.

That is a good way to put it Adam. I think God has placed a tugging in each of our hearts….part of our job is to figure out that “tug” and respond to it. What makes you mad? what do you look at and get excited about? If you could do anything, what would it be?

One absolute tugging I get daily is to advocate and emotionally support individuals and their rights. Being a mother of a child with a disability ,( which is a blessing), has turned my life to go to places I would have never of gone before. This also has brought me to do things I would have never of even of thought of before. Such as; advocating for People’s rights at the Legislative level in New York State. Why? Because I am motivated and deeply tugged to do the right thing. Today I am able to speak up and out like never before. I am Thankful for this gift of recognizing and speaking up and out.
